Wine Bar Westminster
Our Wine Bar
An early memory of Charlie’s childhood titled, ‘A Cocktail/Dinner Party at The Stanford House.’ The two brothers, Arthur and Charles welcomed guests in from the Canadian cold. The older brother, Arthur, would take the coats and lead the guests to the bar. Charlie, who was 4 years his junior, would stand on a stool in front of a make-shift “bar”, add ice to a glass and inquire, “Good evening Madame and Monsieur. Would you care for a beverage this evening before dinner?” At the tender age of 8 years old, Charlie was proficient with a corkscrew and more than competent in the creation of a number of cocktails. He could easily hold his own ‘behind the bar’ with his father’s friends and provide libation throughout the course of the evening. In 2008 Charlie achieved his Sommelier Certification by the International Sommelier Guild, and in 2009 received his level II certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers. Charlie designed and built his wine cellar at Asti before he built Asti. It has now grown to over 13oo bottles representing 100 different labels with fourteen wines by the glass and a bottle for every occasion. Charlie pulled his first cork out of a wine bottle at age four. He taught his daughter, Lili, how to do it at age 3 ½. While growing up in Canada, family vacations were spent riding through the wine growing regions of France and Italy. A wine bar was always part of Charlie’s plan, and now, it too, has come to fruition.
